Accessibility and Accommodations

UUFES is committed to fully welcoming people with differing abilities in the life of the congregation.

Please let us know how we can do this more effectively.

Directions: As you drive to UUFES heading north on Route 113, use one of two driveways on the left to access the Meeting House. The first driveway leads to a lower-level parking lot and the entrance to the UUsed Thrift Store, open spring through fall during the Saturday Tamworth Farmers' Market hours. To reach the main entrance (accessible by ramp) and upper-level parking, proceed past the building, turn left onto Tamworth Road, then - watching for oncoming vehicles - a quick left into the parking lot.

Coming from the north, to reach the main entrance, turn right onto Tamworth Road, then a quick left into the upper parking lot. To reach the lower parking lot and the UUsed thrift shop, continue on Route 113 past Tamworth Road, then a right into the lower lot.

Parking: On the upper level, there are 2 reserved spaces for people with limited mobility, 5 accessible spaces about 25 feet away from the entrance, and 20+ accessible parking about 40 feet away.

Building Access: The entrance has four steps up to the main floor. The Meeting House door swings out (it does not have automatic doors). A lift accesses the sanctuary (2nd floor). Help may be needed to navigate a wheelchair up the ramp to the lift (the ramp on the right as you look at the front door). The first floor has two restrooms, one wheelchair accessible. Our Community Room and Library, on the first floor, are accessible via both outdoor ramps.

A double staircase leads to the sanctuary, railings on both sides.

Vision:  Zoom screens in the sanctuary do not have flashing images or text on hard-to-read backgrounds. Individual large print hymnals are available. Please ask the greeter for these as you enter the Sanctuary.

Hearing: The sanctuary has Hearing Loop technology.

Chemical Sensitivity: We request that people not wear scented products on Sunday mornings. We are working on ensuring that soaps in our bathrooms are fragrance-free. We use smokeless candles. Please speak to the Minister or Music Director if you have concern about smells or scents that bother you.

Sensory Sensitivity: People can access several quiet places in the Meeting House where lights can be turned off. On request, we can set up a screen in our Library to watch Sunday worship or participate in Zoom meetings.

Service Animals: Service animals are welcome. Please ask the greeters or ushers for assistance. To be acquainted with practices and legislation concerning service animals, so that all can respond appropriately and ensure the service animal and its human handler are safe and feel welcomed, please read "When a Service Dog Comes to Church" for helpful FAQs.

Children: Children are always welcome at UUFES. Please talk to Young People's Program staff about accommodations your child(ren) may need. For more information on Sunday services, see Young People's Program.

Pastoral Care: Pastoral care is available to all congregants. The Minister is available to assist with  individual needs.
